Re: Hey Vineh ;)
dw since Gundam > Macross . But i kinda like where G. Wing is slightly intersting. Sure a lot of plot are randomly placed and the character's actions rarely make sense, but the main idea is actually interesting. Not to mention after DC + school days + myselfyourself, there is no emo i cannot face
Re: Hey Vineh ;)
...what WAS the main idea of GWing? The only thing that really mattered were the last few episodes and Endless Waltz. Hmm what other soul-crushingly depressing anime I've watched before...
Re: Hey Vineh ;)
I dunno, the idea of justice and peace perhaps (well given I haven't watched any gundam except seed and wing, these ideas are still kinda fresh to me). Gundam is always a werid series as it's a Robo show focused on politics :S
soul-crushing eh? watched voices of a distant star?

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
Well I suppose GWing does have the most awesome OP out of all the Gundams...but it's still just angst-filled show with bisshies for the fangirls. Well since the Gundam franchise has always been based somewhat on the actual dealings of a military, it's only natural for politics to be in play. Though I think 08th MS Team is purely grunt on grunt action...which is awesome, but it wouldn't be a Gundam show without romantic tension right?
Yeah I've watched Voices, but I found Byousoku 5cm to be more soul-crushingly depressing in a realistic setting compared to the sci-fi of Voices. Hmm Grave of the Fireflies come to mind, but you expect a show like that to be soul-crushingly depressing given the setting...
Just One Beat Communi-cation!
I think I'll go on a Gundam run one of these days...wanna watch the Z/ZZ as well as Char's Counterattack...

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
TALLGEESE!!!!!!!
I was gonna say 5cm since they're both heavy bawlers but voices seem to put more focus on the loliness of the character (the heroine). Grave is sad but in another context, which i didn't particularly enjoy
on another note:
Yoake Mae yori Ruriiro na manga has got to be the biggest troll in vn>manga history. It's pretty good midway then the plot just spirals down into the pit of chaos and a very messy plot ;-;

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
Tallgeese? Bah EPYON MOFO! Ah man good old days of playing Gundam Battle Assault...
Well the problem with Voices is that its only 30 minutes; not enough time to really bond with the characters to to speak. While 5cm may have been broken into parts, we got to know Takaki (that's his name right?) pretty well from childhood all the way to adulthood. That ending still gives me the shivers due to the multitude of meanings it represents...but yeah I'm kinda hoping the 5cm light novel gets translated due to all the extra content that was cut in the movie.
Grave is definitely a family friendly movie
That's the one with the princess girl right?

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
gooooooo... SPACE LEO!!!!!
wonder is there a meaning to the battleship's name "libra" :S
I see your point. It's easier to get the feel of the characters that way. Voice seem to capture the despair better though since the heroine's final lifeline (the messages with her lover) slowly dimishes as the movie progresses till she... perhaps it's a good time to rewatch both of them
Grave seems to try too hard at times and can get annoying so meh
and yeah princess girl. I heard that the game is pretty good though.

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
I think all the MS are named after constellations?
I think the key point of Voices is the hopelessness of the situation. Both of them are just keeping up the charade knowing full well nothing good can come out of it. There is actual hope in 5cm, which makes how it turned out all the more depressing in the end...
And Grave is just pretty realistic imo, but yeah I do agree that some of the stuff is a bit overdone.
At least she's cute?

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
yeah they are... though why is Libra the strongest remains a mystery :S
There was hope, but there was also a massive level of procrastination and lack of effort to make a long-distance relationship happen =.=
in that sense, voice is more depressing since there's nothing the characters can do?
eah i suppose the two major heroines are pretty cute, the rest of the cast is kinda lame though.

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
Because the other constellations just doesn't roll off the tongue like Libra? I mean this is a mothership-class unit, it has to be easy to say and awesome in conjunction with FIRE!
I think they were both scared of trying to regain contact with one another. I mean they've been out of the loop for so long that they would rather preserve the image they had of their young love than to ruin it with the cold reality of life. I think Akari sort of moved on with her life, but Takaki was stuck in this limbo of sorts; which is kind of why we see the story told from his perspective. It's been awhile, but that's what I remember from watching the show...we gotta movie night this bitch one day...along with Knk!
(*sigh* i think i'm officially bumped off to january so i'm free...again)
Well the depressing aspect of Voices is to be expected since nothing short of a miracle can get them back together again. I was already expecting to be somewhat depressed by the plot so the impact of their circumstance was sort of dampened. I was rooting for a 'happy' end in 5cm so the fact that didn't really come to pass made it all the more depressing for me.
huh we never really did discuss Sharin more in detail...thoughts?

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
I suppose you're right... but why in conjuction with fire?
yeah, i should be free after next friday so we'll start planning then. we should also make a seasonal preview for kicks
Sharin eh, we talked about which girl we like so let's move on...
I find it hard to score it since I haven't really played VNs of this type, but yeah it's decent. there's a couple of hiccups with the plot though, things were happening too damn fast and the plot looks a bit silly once we've hit the 3rd heroine (actually, it might have begun with the 2nd heroine). The notion of alternate universe always create a couple of doubts; it feels like the author is relying too much on the 'this is an alternate universe" excuse and try to bypass common sense in order to advance the plot (eg. the parental training scanario). on a another note, the ririko revelations is a nice touch

Re: Hey Vineh ;)
Because any weapon of mass destruction has to be accompanied hashin/hasha/fire/etc. It has to sound cool when they are ordering the mass genocide of red shirts and random civilians. I think GENESIS sounds cooler though.
*sigh* I'm officially not bumped off and going to start on the 30th...I hate the system. Well I doubt we'll get something along the lines of a 4-5+ hour thing going, but maybe a movie or two every now and then would work out. Some KnK movies we can watch 2 maybe 3 in one sitting, but the 2 hour ones is single day only
The story is very coherent from start to finish, but yes some parts did feel kind of odd. The problem with the story stems from the romantic aspect of it. Hina is the canon end, but there is a choice for you to pick the first two heroines if you desire. Getting a Ririko end doesn't feel as iffy as getting a Sachi/Touka end, but the Hina end is still the best out of all of them.
The AU makes sense in the world that it supposedly represents. Enough background information was provided so that the 'obligations' doesn't feel out of place. Though you are correct that some like 'parental obligation' seem over the top, but again works in the context of how the society in the story is portrayed.
The Ririko revelation is the best plot device I've seen since Bioshock. I mean just damn...it feels like it came outta nowhere, but you know that there were very subtle hints dropped here and there along the story. Though how it was done (absurd obligation) requires a suspension of disbelief, the awesomeness of the reveal makes that a moot point.
I'm just sad that the wiki people never translated the other routes in the fandisc
